About this event
Our analysis of sniper and designated marksman programs across the country has exposed a wide range of equipment and training deficiencies. Although the “average” domestic LE sniper shot is well less than100 yards, overwatch deployment tasking expose that the average range covered by snipers commonly extends to 500 yards. Neither training nor equipment have kept up with that trend.
On the Designated Marksman side, training and competency vary drastically: from exceptional to negligent. Policies, training standards, and equipment selection processes are frequently non-existent.
